National Quality Framework (NQF)

Quality You Can See, Standards You Can Trust

Picking the right childcare centre is a big call. You want to know your child is in safe hands, and the National Quality Framework (NQF) gives you a reliable way to check.

The NQF is the Australian Government's system for regulating and assessing early childhood education and care. It sets the standards every approved centre has to meet, and it gives families a straightforward, consistent way to compare the quality of any service.

At Aussie Kindies Early Learning, the NQF shapes everything we do, and we're happy to be held accountable to it.

What the NQF Covers

The NQF covers seven areas of practice. Here's what each one actually means for your child and family:

  • Educational program and practice - Your child's learning is planned with their individual needs and interests in mind, guided by qualified educators using play-based approaches.
  • Children's health and safety - Solid policies and procedures keep kids safe and healthy every day, covering hygiene, nutrition, sun safety, and emergency procedures.
  • Physical environment - Indoor and outdoor spaces are safe, age-appropriate, and designed to give kids room to explore, move, and get creative.
  • Staffing - Educators hold the right qualifications, and staff-to-child ratios are kept at levels that mean every child gets proper attention.
  • Relationships with children - Educators build warm, steady relationships with children that help them feel safe, settled, and ready to learn.
  • Partnerships with families and communities - Families are kept in the loop and involved in their child's learning, and centres stay connected with their local community.
  • Governance and leadership - Centres are well-managed, with clear policies, regular team training, and a focus on always getting better.

How Centres Are Rated

Every centre is independently assessed across the seven areas and given an overall rating:

  • Exceeding NQS - The centre goes above and beyond the National Quality Standard in at least four of the seven areas.
  • Meeting NQS - The centre meets the National Quality Standard across all seven areas.
  • Working Towards NQS - The centre meets safety requirements but has areas flagged for improvement.
  • Significant Improvement Required - Immediate action is needed to address risks to children's safety, health, or wellbeing.

All ratings are publicly available through ACECQA, so you can look up any Aussie Kindies centre whenever you like.

What This Means at Aussie Kindies

At Aussie Kindies, the NQF is our baseline, and we're always working to go beyond it. We review our Quality Improvement Plans regularly, invest in our educators' ongoing development, and genuinely value feedback from families.

Want to know more about a specific centre's rating, or how we apply the NQF day to day? Just ask, our teams are always happy to talk it through.
