Early Years Toolbox

Understanding How Each Child Thinks, Learns and Grows

The Early Years Toolbox (EYT) is a suite of play-based assessment tools developed by the University of Wollongong to help early childhood educators better understand each child’s development. At Aussie Kindies, we use these tools as part of our School Readiness Program to gain meaningful insights into how children are growing, and to tailor learning experiences that genuinely meet their needs.

What the Early Years Toolbox Measures

The EYT assessments are engaging and child-friendly, designed to feel like play rather than testing. They give our educators a clear picture of each child’s development across four key areas:

  • Executive function - focus, working memory and self-control
  • Self-regulation - emotional resilience and social interaction
  • Language and literacy - communication, comprehension and vocabulary
  • Social and emotional development - how children manage feelings and build relationships

How It Helps Your Child

By using the EYT alongside our broader curriculum, our educators can track each child’s developmental progress in a structured, research-based way, identifying strengths, spotting areas for support, and sharing meaningful updates with families. It’s one of the ways we ensure every child at Aussie Kindies is genuinely seen and understood as an individual learner.
