Warm, Wholesome and Honestly Good: Our Winter Menu Has Arrived

Meals Prepared Onsite | Child Care & Early Education | Aussie Kindies

There's nothing quite like a warm meal on a cold day, and at Aussie Kindies, we reckon the kids deserve the best of it. Our 2026 Winter Menu is here, and it's full of hearty, wholesome food made fresh at your centre every single day. Real ingredients, real cooking, real good.

Why Fresh Cooking Matters When It's Cold

When winter rolls in, children's bodies are working a bit harder, staying warm, fighting off the bugs that come with the season, and keeping energy up for a full day of play and learning. That's when fresh, homestyle cooking makes a real difference.

Food that's cooked onsite, not reheated from a pack or delivered pre-made, arrives on the plate with its nutrients intact and its flavours at their best. Our kitchen teams prepare everything fresh each day, so every bowl of soup, every stir-fry, every pasta bake is as nourishing as it is delicious. Iron from the meat and legumes, fibre from the vegetables, wholegrains for steady energy, it all adds up to a child who's well-fed and ready for whatever the day brings.

What We've Got Cooking This Winter

Our winter menu runs across a four-week rotation, developed with The Biting Truth, a team of Accredited Practising Dietitians who know their way around an early childhood kitchen, and our national food partner Woolworths at Work. Here's a taste of what's on:

  • Vietnamese Beef and Bean Stew - warming and richly flavoured with lemongrass and five spice, served with white rice
  • Mexican Cheesy Beef and Rice Casserole - a crowd-pleaser with tonnes of veg and a bean-based vegetarian version
  • Minestrone Soup with Bread Soldiers - the classic winter warmer, loaded with beans and veggies
  • Garlic Chicken Veggie Stir Fry with Brown Rice - fresh, bright, and packed with colour
  • Italian Pork Mince and Veggie Pasta Bake - hearty and homestyle with a lentil option for vego kids

And that's just the lunches. Morning teas like The Happy Snacker's Platter - brown rice crackers, cream cheese, dried apricots, dates, carrots, and tasty cheese - and afternoon teas like Cinnamon Fruit Loaf with Cucumber Sticks make sure kids are fuelled up from the first session to the last.

Every lunch has a vegetarian option, and Halal menus are available too, just chat to your Centre Manager.

A Recipe to Warm the Whole Family: Italian Pasta Bake

Inspired by our Italian Pork Mince and Veggie Pasta Bake, here's a version you can whip up at home. It's a proper winter dinner - easy, filling, and the kind of thing kids ask for again.

Serves: 4-6

Time: 50 minutes

Ingredients

  • 500g pork mince (or 400g brown lentils, drained, for a vegetarian version)
  • 1 large carrot, grated
  • 1 zucchini, grated
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 400ml passata
  • 500ml vegetable stock (low sodium)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 cups macaroni pasta
  • ½ cup grated tasty cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large, oven-safe casserole dish over medium heat. Add pork mince and cook, breaking up, until browned. (For the lentil version, skip this step and add lentils with the passata.)
  3. Stir in carrot, zucchini, tomato paste, paprika, and thyme. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add passata and stock. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  5. Add uncooked macaroni and stir through. Season lightly.
  6. Top with grated cheese. Transfer to oven and bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, until pasta is cooked and top is golden.
  7. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Tip: Grating the carrot and zucchini means even the fussiest eaters won't spot the veggies. Win.
