The preschool and kindergarten years are such an exciting time in your child’s life. You can almost see them growing into the person they’re becoming, full of stories, questions, and new friendships every week.
That’s why more families are choosing to give their child two years of kindergarten or preschool. It’s an opportunity for children to build stronger learning foundations, develop confidence and independence, and head off to school ready to thrive.
Recent research confirms what educators and parents have long known - children who spend two years in a quality early learning environment benefit in lasting ways, both academically and emotionally.
Why Two Years Matter: What the Research Says
During the first five years of life, children’s brains develop faster than at any other time, creating more than a million new neural connections every second. By the age of five, about 90% of brain development has already taken place (source: education.vic.gov.au).
The Mitchell Institute at Victoria University found that children who take part in two years of quality kindergarten or preschool achieve stronger results in literacy, numeracy, social skills, and emotional regulation than those who attend for just one year (source: vu.edu.au).
Countries like New Zealand and the UK already recommend at least two years - and around 20 hours a week - of early learning before children start formal schooling.
What Your Child Experiences in Our Two-Year School Readiness Program
At Aussie Kindies, we believe every child deserves to start school feeling capable, confident, and excited to learn. That’s why our Lifelong Learning Curriculum includes a two year School Readiness Program for children aged three to five.
Each program is led by a Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teacher, who supports children through hands-on, play-based learning experiences that build the skills they’ll need for school, and for life.
Our program includes:
- Big Thinkers STEM - encouraging curiosity through science, technology, engineering, and maths.
- Positive Living Skills - helping children build confidence, resilience, and social awareness.
- Early Years Toolbox - allowing educators to track and strengthen school readiness milestones.
- MathSeeds and Reading Eggs - early literacy and numeracy made fun.
Children also enjoy nutritious meals prepared onsite, daily outdoor play, and extra-curricular experiences like sport, yoga, and music sessions. These activities help children stay active, balanced, and happy throughout their day.
The 3-Day Guarantee: Supporting Families Across Australia
From January 2026, the Australian Government’s Child Care Subsidy (CCS) 3 Day Guarantee will make it easier for families to access consistent, high-quality early education.
This change means that eligible families will be able to receive CCS for at least three days of care per week (72 hours per fortnight), regardless of work or activity hours (source: servicesaustralia.gov.au).
Put simply, families can plan for at least three days of care with peace of mind, and children can benefit from the routines, friendships, and learning that come from spending more time with their teachers and peers.
If your child is already loving their time at Aussie Kindies, now is the perfect moment to chat with your Centre Manager about how an extra day or two could help them prepare even more confidently for school.
